The Mehrklangorchester Berlin was founded in 2003 as an ensemble for contemporary music.
In the complete ensemble, the six musicians play under direction of conductor Tammin Lee. The program conceptions in the different concerts, with pieces reaching from the solo to the sextet, document the various possibilities of the ensemble. Besides playing repertoire of contemporary music, a main aspect of the ensemble’s work concentrates on the performance of compositions demanded by the Mehrklangorchester Berlin. For this purpose, the ensemble contacts especially young composers coming from many European countries. During this process of cooperation, the Mehrklangorchester Berlin takes the chance of intensive discussions and direct communication with the composers while studying and rehearsing the absolutely new music.
Exploring new forms of the concert situation itself by investigating the possibilities of improvisation or gesture music is also a main interest of the ensemble. In this context, the use, connection and integration (both synthesis and confrontation) of new media, electronics and a mostly widespread understanding of equipment and demanding constitute a main part of the MOB’s work.
For the series Werkstatttee the Mehrklangorchester Berlin earned a support of the Deutscher Musikrat. In April 2005 the ensemble has been invited to play a concert with contemporary music from Italy at the festival Neue Musik Saar in Saarbrücken. Another invitation is the portrait concert of the young composer Johannes Kreidler in Frankfurt am Main in November 2005.
The Mehrklangorchester Berlin created pieces by:
Cathy van Eck, Eun-Hwa Cho, Tom Rojo Poller, Yu-Ching Chiang, Nikolai Zinke, Sara Minguez, Francesco Maria Paradiso, Alessio Elia, Vincenzo de Filippo, Johannes Kreidler
